The Rotary Club of Nantucket on Saturday, December 5th, 2009, participated in our annual fundraiser during Nantucket's Christmas Stroll - "Sausages & Soda".  Held beside the food tent in the Grand Union Parking Lot, the sale of sweet sausage sandwiches (with onions and green peppers in a big roll) and sodas raises money for the Rotary Club of Nantucket's student scholarship fund. In 2009 a rainy and windy day cut way back on our fundraiser, and leftover sausages were sold to Rotary members until they were gone.

Since 1950, the Rotary Club of Nantucket has provided scholarships to Nantucket High School seniors who have demonstarted a committment and dedication to community service.  The Rotary motto "Service Above Self" is a major consideration in awarding these scholarships. 

Last year the Rotary Club of Nantucket presented four community service awards to the senior class of 2008.  These awards totaled $40,000 and were given to four students - whose activities demonstrated a high level of dedication to serving their community; each award is given in annual $2,500 installments over four years. In 2009 we have committed to assisting the same four students in their second year in college and expect to assist them through their college graduation.
